Stamp commemorates Tomie dePaola’s works, features original “Strega Nona” artwork, issued in Manchester, New Hampshire, home to Currier Museum of Art and The Tomie dePaola Art Education Fund. Tomie dePaola, born September 15, 1934, in Meriden, Connecticut, was a beloved author and illustrator, known for children’s books like “Nana Upstairs & Nana Downstairs” and “Strega Nona.” He studied art at Pratt Institute, taught art, earned a master’s degree, and wrote over 270 books in a career spanning 50 years. dePaola’s first book, “The Wonderful Dragon of Timlin,” was published in 1966. He received numerous awards, including the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal in 2011.
